 2012 is a long year and February 2012 is longer than normal.  This is Leap Year so there are 29 days in February this year.  If  February 29 is your birthday, when do you celebrate?
Text Box: Attendance Drawing—Shipmate Jerry Bonnell, a member in good standing was drawn for the  $110 attendance prize.  He was not present so he could not collect the prize money.  Shipmate William Cox Henry Zatarain won the consolation prize of one year dues.
Text Box: Time to start planning your Branch 101 year.  Our anniversary dinner is coming up in April.  First nominations for branch officers is in April.  West Coast Mid Year is in April.  April is a busy month.  Our Installation Dinner will be June 12.  Summer picnic will be in June or July.  Veterans Day Parade will be November 11.  Watch future Quarterdeck newsletters for dates and times.  Also check branch101.org.  
Text Box: For those who receive a mailed copy of the Quarterdeck, you did not miss your January 2012 copy.  I did not have time to put the newsletter together, print, address and mail the newsletter.  It was sent by email to those who gave Branch 101 their email address.  It was also published at branch101.org.  There will be future editions, however if I do not receive inputs from the responsible people, their section in the newsletter will be blank.

A $40 per person charge for Friday night Dutch oven dinner and entertainment and Saturday lunch.

Text Box: VA's New Regulation Enlarges Emergency Civilian Health Care Policy - Yesterday the VA issued a Press Release explaining new regulations that grant the VA the power to "pay for care provided to eligible Veterans at non-VA facilities until the Veterans can be safely transferred to a VA medical facility."  This could cover 100,000 veterans.  For more information about emergency care in non-VA facilities, visit www.nonvacare.va.gov.

Army & Air Forces Exchange Service shoppers can show their appreciation to military servicemembers who came before them by sending free valentines through their local Exchange now through Feb. 6th. "Valentines for Veterans" is an annual Exchange campaign to send greetings to local Veterans Administration hospitals, Fisher House locations and military retirement facilities.  For more information, contact your local Main Exchange and ask about "Valentines for Veterans."

We hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday. It is now time to get back to work in supporting our veterans.  The funds generated thru our Sunday Bingo help support our vets.  We encourage all members and ladies to help in this worthwhile project.  All help much appreciated.  The Branch has purchased 2 tables for Legion Crab Feed on 10 February.  If you would like to attend contact the Branch Secretary at 408.946.5766.  If you plan to attend any Branch Activities or Conventions please notify the Branch Secretary so proper paperwork can be done.  Thank you for your cooperation.  Up coming events are Four Chaplains memorial service on 11 February.  There will be a Bingo Committee meeting and election at the Board of Directors Meeting 7 February.  Anyone interested in working at bingo is invited to attend.  We extend get well wishes to Vic Besler, Larry Webster, Bonnie Gedling and all who may be under the weather.  The Mid-Term Convention will be on 20-22 April in Ogden, UT.  More information to come as it is sent out.  This is your Branch.  I appreciate all the help and support.  Be an informed member, attend your Branch meetings.  Smooth sailing  Joe Pava, President Branch 101

Text Box: Defense Finance and Accounting Service has released the electronic and postal delivery schedule of 2011 tax statements for military service members, military retirees and annuitants. Delivery began in mid-December and continues through January with all customers receiving their W-2s and 1099Rs by January 31.

Shipmates, our Bible is open:  Shipmate Larry Webster continue to be on the Binnacle List. We pray for his return to health.  We are thankful Shipmates have been generally in good health this month. Shipmates are reminded to let family members know they should call the Chaplain at (408) 379-1954 or the Branch Office at (408) 946-5766 in the event a Shipmate is hospitalized or becomes ill.  All senior Shipmates are reminded of slip and fall hazards and to watch out for uneven surfaces and walking at night.
